Authorities Arrest Two Men for DUI and Hit-and-Run after Crash in Sugarpine

 
SUGARPINE, CA (February 11, 2025) – Thomas Walter James Sale and Michael Hardin were arrested in a DUI crash in the Sugarpine area of Tuolumne County Wednesday afternoon on February 5.
 
The crash happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Highway 108, just west of Leisure Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, Sale, 38, was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata westbound on the highway.
 
For unknown reasons, he allowed his car to travel off the roadway. The left side of the Hyundai then crashed into an embankment.
 
After the crash, Sale fled the scene. Officers later caught and arrested him for felony DUI and hit and run.
 
Meanwhile, Hardin, 37, was a passenger in the Hyundai. He suffered moderate to major injuries. Authorities also arrested him after they learned that he drove the car at the Willow Springs property.
 
Hardin was also driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
An investigation into this crash is underway.
