Teen Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on Varner Road in Indio
INDIO, CA (September 25, 2024) — A teen died in a 2-car accident on Varner Road near Avenue 38.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-vehicle collision happened around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. An 18-year-old driving an eastbound Lexus sedan lost control for an unknown reason. Subsequently, the teen overcorrected to the left, crossing over the dividing lines into the westbound lane, and collided with a westbound Ford hauling a utility trailer.
Moments later, emergency personnel responded to the crash and found two people in the Ford with injuries. However, the teen inside the Lexus died at the scene. Authorities have not released his or her name.
After the crash, CHP officers closed Varner Road in both directions to investigate the possible causes of the accident. If anyone could help traffic investigators identify why the teen lost control, contact the Indio CHP office at 760-772-5300.
