44-Year-Old Woman Dies in Imperial Beach Hit-and-Run Crash
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (August 18, 2024) – Tamara Chambers was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Imperial Beach Wednesday evening on August 14.
The fatal crash happened in the 1100 block of Connecticut Street. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a passerby driving west in the location reported to authorities seeing Chambers lying in the middle of the street.
The passerby was able to move their vehicle around Chambers and stopped at a stop sign when a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing pin stripe struck the victim.
After striking Chambers, the Camaro fled the scene.
First responders attempted life-saving efforts on Chambers, but she died at the scene.
Chambers was 44 years old, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Deputies later located the Camaro in the 700 block of Oneonta Avenue. They arrested the owner and driver of the car, identified as 62-year-old Eric Cox. They booked him into jail on suspicion of manslaughter, felony DUI with injury and felony hit-and-run.
Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation asked anyone with further information to call them at 619-498-2400.
