59-Year-Old Silvino Garcia Dies after Struck by Garbage Truck in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (February 4, 2024) – Silvino Eloy Garcia was hit and killed by a garbage truck in San Jose on January 22.
The fatal crash happened around 6:11 a.m. at McKendrie Street and Elm Street, just near the lacrosse and soccer fields for Bellarmine College Prep off West Hedding Street. According to the San Jose Police Department, a white GreenWaste garbage truck was turning from southbound Elm Street onto westbound McKendrie Street. The driver then struck Garcia who was walking in the roadway.
After the crash, the driver stopped and called 911.
As a result, Garcia suffered life-threatening injuries. Responding paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was initially in stable condition.
However, Garcia died on January 26. He was a 59-year-old San Jose resident, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Police said Garcia was in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck.
There is no indication that the driver was arrested or cited. An investigation is underway.
