Seluster Lane Dead after Bakersfield Big Rig Crash on Highway 99 near Merced Avenue
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 24, 2022) — A man died following an accident with a big rig on Highway 99 at about 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22.
Officials identified the victim as 77-year-old Seluster Lane of Redwood City, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, a Volvo 670 semi-trailer combination moved south on Highway 99, just north of Merced Avenue.
Officers later learned that Lane’s Chrysler Town and Country minivan stopped in the slow lane for unknown reasons. After that, it was hit from behind by the semi-truck, causing Lane to eject from the minivan, according to CHP.
Lane died at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck did not sustain injuries and remained at the scene.
At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash. However, officials continue to investigate the crash.
