Saundra Foutz, Carlos Quinonez, Jess Lopez Hospitalized in Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 46 near Centre Street

 
PASO ROBLES, CA (July 30, 2024) — Saundra Foutz and two others suffered minor to major injuries in a fatal wrong-way accident on Highway 46 near Centre Street.
 
The wrong-way collision claimed three people’s lives. It started around 10:28 p.m. Sunday when 30-year-old Foutz, of Paso Robles, was driving her 2021 Mercedes westbound in the eastbound lanes. Subsequently, her Mercedes collided head-on with an eastbound 2022 Honda, shuttling four people. Following the initial impact, a third vehicle, described as a second Honda traveling about 65 mph, collided with the crashed cars.
 
Minutes later, emergency personnel transported Foutz to CRMC Hospital in Fresno and 28-year-old Carlos Quinonez — a passenger in the first Honda — to Sierra Vista Medical Center with major injuries. The 38-year-old driver of the last car involved — Jess Lopez — reported minor injuries and declined hospital care.
 
The three people who passed away were in the first Honda. Authorities described them as a 24-year-old from Cutler, a 32-year-old from Sanger, and a 27-year-old from Reedley. Authorities have not identified them pending notification of family members.
 
At this time, authorities do not believe impairment factored into the cause. However, they are working to determine an explanation.
