76-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Car in Goleta on Christmas Eve
GOLETA, CA (December 26, 2024) – Ricardo Hernandez was killed in a pedestrian accident in Goleta on Christmas Eve.
The fatal accident happened just after 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Hollister Avenue and Magnolia Drive. According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Hernandez was with another person and crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk when they were struck by a car.
The involved driver was reportedly going approximately 25 mph and did not see the pedestrians before hitting both of them.
First responders found Hernandez unresponsive and unconscious at the scene. They rushed him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Hernandez was a 76-year-old Goleta resident.
Meanwhile, the condition of the other pedestrian was unknown at this time.
The sheriff’s office said the driver stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
No arrests have been made and drugs or alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors.
