Head-On Crash on Bowman Road in Cottonwood Kills Pregnant Woman and Fetus

 
COTTONWOOD, CA (May 14, 2024) – A pregnant woman was killed in a head-on accident on Bowman Road in Cottonwood early Monday morning on May 13.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:40 a.m. near Adams Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 33-year-old Anderson woman was driving a 2010 Chevy Equinox westbound on Bowman Road. For unknown reasons, she crossed the double yellow line into the eastbound lane.
 
The Equinox then traveled directly into the path of a 2018 Ford F-150, which was traveling eastbound on Bowman Road. The two vehicles collided head-on within the eastbound lane.
 
First responders pulled both drivers out of their vehicles.
 
Paramedics rushed the driver of the Equinox to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where she later succumbed to her injuries along with her unborn child.
 
Authorities determined that the woman was approximately 8-9 months pregnant at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, 39-year-old Joshua James Gay of Cottonwood, suffered moderate injuries.

The cause of the crash and factors involved are still under investigation.
