Small Plane Hits SUV before Crashing near 8 Freeway in El Cajon Badly Injuring the Pilot
EL CAJON, CA (August 24, 2022) – A pilot was seriously injured in a plane crash on 8 Freeway in El Cajon on Thursday morning, August 18.
The plane crash happened around 10:35 a.m. at Greenfield Drive. The crash site is about five miles east of Gillespie Field, a San Diego County airport. According to a California Highway Patrol, the Cessna 195 aircraft came to rest near the freeway, landing alongside the freeway overpass.
The pilot, a 65-year-old San Diego man, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries but was expected to survive. No others were aboard the plane.
The plane hit the hood of a white Hyundai SUV before landing. The driver, an Alpine woman, and her dog were unharmed.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash at this time.
The CHP, Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
