LAPD Officer Strikes Pedestrian Walking on South Normandie Avenue Sidewalk in South LA
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (November 30, 2023) – A pedestrian was hurt after being hit by an LAPD officer on South Normandie Avenue in South Los Angeles area early Wednesday morning on November 29.
Around 12:30 a.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk when a damaged LAPD cruiser suddenly entered and struck him in the 3900 block of South Normandie Avenue. The cruiser crashed into a parked vehicle then briefly pinned a pedestrian against a wall.
The officer driving the cruiser managed to put the car in reverse and freed the man, who sustained minor injuries.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the officers were on routine patrol and responding to a call when some kind of mechanical failure occurred with the vehicle. It then went out of control, struck a parked truck then jumped the curb onto the sidewalk.
The department is still investigating what led to the crash. He said it was still unclear how fast the cruiser was going when the driver lost control.
