Pedestrian Fatally Hit by Driver Who Left Coe Avenue in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (November 20, 2024) — A pedestrian died in a hit-and-run accident near Coe Avenue and Bird Avenue Monday night.

San Jose Police officers arrived around 8:45 p.m. to learn that a man was hit by a vehicle that left. The person struck, unidentified by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office until family members are notified, died from severe injuries.

According to an investigation, the driver operating a 2019 Chevy pickup was unaware that he had struck a person when his car hit a large tree branch that the fatal victim was attempting to clear from the road. Subsequently, the suspect who suffered non-life-threatening injuries left the scene to seek treatment.

Reports did not specify if officers arrested the driver. However, neither alcohol nor drugs factored into the crash.
