Blowout on Big Rig Triggers Deadly Rollover Accident on 215 Freeway in Menifee
MENIFEE, CA (August 2, 2022) – A passenger died in a rollover accident on 215 Freeway in Menifee on Monday morning, August 1.
The accident happened around 5:55 a.m. along the southbound freeway, just north of McCall Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2002 Mack truck with a trailer was going roughly 55 mph when one of the semi’s left tires blew, causing the 45-year-old driver from San Jacinto to briefly lose control.
A 2002 Toyota T-100 pickup was in the fast lane when the driver noticed the tractor-trailer veering toward him. That prompted him to take evasive action. He steered toward the center median when he lost control of the pickup.
The pickup then rolled over and landed on the third lane of the freeway.
As a result, the 22-year-old passenger of the pickup truck from Riverside suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was the son of the driver.
Paramedics transported the pickup truck driver to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the trucker was unharmed.
An investigation is underway.
