Driver Dies after Van and Jeep Collide on Taft Highway in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 4, 2025) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Taft Highway in Bakersfield Friday afternoon on January 31.
The fatal accident happened at the intersection with Buena Vista Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan van was traveling southbound on Buena Vista Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection at Taft Highway.
A Jeep traveling westbound on the highway was unable to avoid the van and struck the Nissan.
Paramedics responded and took both drivers to Kern Medical Hospital.
Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, the driver of the Nissan did not survive and was declared dead. The coroner’s office will release their identity at a later time.
The driver of the Jeep only sustained minor injuries.
It was unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The CHP is still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
