Driver Dies after Crashing to Overturned Truck Tractor on 10 Freeway near Coachella Valley

 
COACHELLA VALLEY, CA (February 12, 2024) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident on 10 Freeway just east of Coachella Valley on February 10.
 
The fatal crash happened around midnight near Chiriaco Summit. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a truck tractor swerved to avoid hitting an animal. In the process, his vehicle overturned and landed in the first lane of the freeway.
 
The truck driver was able to get out of the car safely. However, a passing Chevrolet crashed into the overturned truck.
 
Cal Fire responded and pronounced the driver of the Chevrolet dead at the scene.
 
The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
Crews shut down the area for six hours while first responders and CHP officers worked on the scene.
 
The fatality is still under investigation.
