NEWHALL PASS, CA (September 9, 2023) — An officer was hit and injured by a car on the 5 Freeway near the 210 Freeway.
 
According to officials, the pedestrian accident happened around 3:30 a.m. on August 18. Upon receiving word about a disabled vehicle, a California Highway Patrol officer responded to assist. However, while helping the stranded driver with a missing tire, a 2023 Tesla struck the officer standing outside his patrol car.
 
As of Tuesday afternoon, the officer remains hospitalized and in critical condition.
