Pilot Dies after Plane Crashes During Storm in La Jolla
LA JOLLA, CA (November 21, 2023) – Michael Salour died in a plane crash in La Jolla Wednesday on November 15.
Around 5:30 p.m., the single-engine Cessna P210 plane took off from an airport in Concord. Around 9:30 p.m., the pilot radioed the he was running out of gas and in search of a place to land safely.
The plane attempted to land at Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa before continuing northwest toward La Jolla where its GPS signal was lost.
Emergency crews tried to divert the plane to Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa because of poor weather conditions. The plane took a sharp turn towards La Jolla.
The San Diego police said a drone unit discovered the wreckage on a hillside outside of a residential area near Evening Way, just south of La Jolla Village Drive and Gilman Drive.
Salour was found dead from blunt force injuries in the pilot seat. He was 74 years old from Carlsbad, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was the only person on board the Cessna, which was registered to him.
At this time, an investigation into this crash is ongoing.
