24-Year-Old Navy Sailor Dies in Imperial Beach Motorcycle Crash
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (August 5, 2024) – Maximillian Herr was killed in a motorcycle accident in Imperial Beach Thursday morning on August 1.
The fatal accident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of 13th Street and Donax Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Herr was riding his motorcycle when he collided with a truck in unclear circumstances.
Imperial Beach Fire-Rescue crews responded and provided life-saving measures, but Herr died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the truck’s driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Herr was a 24-year-old Second-class Petty Officer, according to a spokesperson of the Navy Region Southwest. He was assigned to Maritime Expeditionary Group 1 in Imperial Beach.
