Manuel Gonzalez Charged in Police Pursuit, Multi-Vehicle Crash, Sending Car Into Business on Niles Street near Oswell Street

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 18, 2024) — Manuel Gonzalez faces several charges following a police chase that ended in a multi-car crash on Niles Street near Oswell Street.
 
According to Bakersfield Police, the chase happened around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. For unknown reasons, officers tried to pull over a 22-year-old man. However, the driver continued on Oswell Street, allowing a chase to ensue, and crashed into a car, fortunately resulting in no injuries. The suspect then lost control and struck two parked cars at the Stella’s Sandtrap parking lot and a third vehicle, causing the car to crash into Stella’s Sandtrap.
 
Shortly after, paramedics responded and took a person inside the bar to a hospital while another person with a minor injury declined hospital care. Following an investigation, officers arrested Gonzalez after he was medically cleared from Kern Medical.
 
Jimmy Brawder, the bar owner, remains in shock and hopes to reopen the business, which was founded by his mother over three decades ago.
