Three-Car Accident on 80 Freeway in Contra Costa County Kills One and Injures Another

 
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (June 23, 2024) – A man died in a three-car accident on 80 Freeway in Contra Costa County early Friday morning on June 21.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:05 a.m. along the westbound freeway, just east of Willow Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a silver Chrysler 300 when he collided into a gold Chrysler 300. The impact caused the silver Chrysler to overturn on its roof.
 
Moments later, a white Mazda 3 heading westbound on the freeway crashed into the silver Chrysler.
 
As a result, the man driving the silver Chrysler suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died. His identity was not immediately available.
 
The woman driving the Mazda 3 also sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. She is expected to recover.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the gold Chrysler was unharmed.

Officers said the male victim was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. CHP officials asked anyone with further information to contact them at 925-646-4980.
