Head-On Crash on Canal School Road in Newman Kills One and Injures Four
NEWMAN, CA (July 5, 2024) – A 22-year-old man died in a head-on accident on Canal School Road in Newman Thursday afternoon on July 4.
The fatal accident happened around 4:34 p.m. at the intersection with West Sanches Road, just north of Highway 33. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was driving a 2017 Nissan southbound on Canal School Road. At the same time, 36-year-old Justin Manuel Borges of Stockton was driving a 2002 Chevrolet northbound.
For unknown reasons, the man driving the Nissan went across the yellow center line and struck the Chevrolet head-on.
The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn on its roof.
The driver of the Nissan, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
Paramedics rushed the 22-year-old female passenger of the Nissan to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Meanwhile, Borges and his front passenger, 34-year-old Brianne Borges of Stockton, also sustained major injuries.
A third passenger in the Chevrolet, a 2-year-old boy from Stockton, had minor injuries and was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
CHP officers did not suspect drugs or alcohol as contributing factors. The crash is still under investigation.
