Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Driver on Oak Street in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 7, 2024) – A man was killed in a DUI crash on Oak Street in central Bakersfield on the night of Fourth of July.
The fatal crash happened around 8:39 p.m. at 24th Street. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Oak Street when it failed an eastbound turn onto 24th Street. It then struck the male pedestrian in the center divider. It also hit four cars before fulling stopping.
As a result of the crash, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was not yet identified.
One of the drivers of the four cars was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police arrested the driver who struck the man and booked him into the Kern County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence.
An investigation is underway. Police urged anyone with further information to call them at 661-327-7111.
