Man Walking onto Highway 152 with Arms Wide Open Dies after Struck by Truck

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (August 24, 2024)) – A man was hit and killed by a car on Highway 152 in Merced County early Thursday morning on August 22.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:25 a.m. just west of Volta Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a man was driving a 2016 Volvo, 3-axel truck pulling a box trailer, westbound on Highway 152 at 55 mph, when the victim walked into the lane, directly in front of the Volvo with their arms spread wide open.
 
The front of the Volvo struck the pedestrian, causing him fatal injuries. Several passing motorists also struck the victim.
 
The pedestrian died at the scene.
 
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash, which is under investigation.
