Lanes Closed After Semi-Truck Overturns in Crash on 5 Freeway in Castaic
CASTAIC, CA (November 18, 2024) — Officials closed several lanes after a big rig overturned in a multi-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Pyramid Lake.
The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a four-car crash around 11:16 a.m. on November 15. Upon arriving, they found an overturned big rig and a driver trapped in the cab. Authorities learned that the semi-truck was hauling pistachios when the collision unfolded. However, officials did not confirm how the four vehicles collided.
After the crash, police contacted the Los Angeles County Fire to assist the injured. The right lane was the only lane open to allow cars to pass through.
At this time, the authorities do not know what led to the accident. However, an investigation is underway.
Take care when driving near larger commercial vehicles like semi-trailers. These drivers need more time and space to turn and switch lanes. It is important to stay out of their blind spots and never switch lanes too closely in front of them. These high-profile vehicles have a likelier chance of overturning.
