Karla Levya Dies, Jose Cruz Charged in DUI Crash on Las Palmas Drive near Camino Vida Roble
CARLSBAD, CA (September 16, 2024) — Karla Levya died in a DUI accident on Las Palmas Drive near Camino Vida Roble.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, 23-year-old Karla Stephanie Levya passed away Tuesday around 12:37 a.m. For DUI reasons, 26-year-old Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz failed to negotiate a curve on Las Palmas Drive. Subsequently, his northbound Volkswagen Jetta struck Levya and her vehicle.
Instead of pulling over, Cruz fled but was later arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, DUI and other charges. He remains incarcerated at Vista Detention Facility.
Levya, however, passed away from severe injuries. Authorities learned that she had just parked along Las Palmas Drive and exited her car when the accident occurred.
