EXPOSITION PARK, CA (November 24, 2024) – Jonathan Flores was killed in a bicycle hit-and-run crash in Exposition Park Friday afternoon on November 22.
The fatal crash happened around 4:36 p.m. in a parking lot of BMO Stadium. According to the California Highway Patrol, Flores was riding his bike with a group of friends when a driver of a sedan accelerated towards them. The suspect then struck Flores and sped away.
Flores, 16, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was in 11th grade at a South Los Angeles high school where he was both an athlete and an honor roll student.
Investigators believe that the suspect followed the group into the parking lot after some sort of altercation prior to the crash.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to contact the CHP’s Major Crimes Unit at 323-644-9550 during normal business hours, or the Los Angeles Communication Center at 323-259-3200 after hours.
