Johnny Schenck Killed in UTV Accident at New Hogan Lake [Calaveras County, CA]

71-Year-Old Man Dies after Side-By-Side Vehicle Crashes at New Hogan Lake

 
CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (July 30, 2023) – Johnny Schenck was killed in a UTV accident in Calaveras County Thursday evening on July 27.
 
The fatal accident happened at New Hogan Lake near Coyote Point. According to the Calaveras Consolidated Fire District, Schenck was driving a John Deere side-by-side gator-style vehicle on a pedestrian trail near the Oak Knoll Campground. When he tried to turn around, the vehicle rolled down about 20 feet down an embankment before stopping near the lake.
 
First responders found the vehicle on its side with Schenck’s body pinned underneath. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
 
Schenck was 71 years old from Valley Springs.
 
Another man, who was ejected from the vehicle, sustained minor injuries.
 
The cause of this accident is still under investigation.
