Jesse Gutierrez Hospitalized, Alexis Santiagoavila Charged in Police Chase Crash on 10 Freeway near Vincent Avenue

COVINA, CA (May 21, 2024) — Jesse Gutierrez remains in critical condition following a police chase accident on the 10 Freeway near Vincent Avenue.

According to Covina Police, the crash happened on May 6. After receiving a call for service, Covina police officer Jesse Gutierrez began pursuing a suspect who refused to pull over. Subsequently, the chase led the officer and his K-9 to crash into a cement sign across from Rangel’s Cafe.

Soon after, firefighters responded and used the Jaws of Life to extricate the officer and his K-9 partner, Paco, from the patrol vehicle. Due to the incident, the officer sustained a severe head injury and remains sedated in the ICU.
