Passenger Dies after SUV Crashes into Fence and Trees in Modesto
MODESTO, CA (July 30, 2022) – Isaiah Martinez was killed in a car accident in Modesto late Wednesday, July 20.
The accident happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Finney Road, just south of North Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Martinez was a passenger in a Chevrolet Suburban that heading south on Finney Road at a high rate of speed.
The driver allowed the SUV to drift into the northbound lane. He over-corrected, causing the Suburban to leave the west side of the roadway and crash into a fence.
The large vehicle continued into an orchard, striking multiple trees and a guy wire, before coming to rest on its left side.
As a result of the crash, Martinez suffered major injuries. Responding paramedics rushed him to Doctors Medical Center, where he later died. He was 24 years old. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old driver was badly hurt and taken to Memorial Medical Center.
Authorities said alcohol intoxication was believed to be a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
