2 Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101 near Hartnell Road in Salinas
SALINAS, CA (August 29, 2024) – A Salinas woman and a semi-truck driver sustained injuries in a wrong-way accident on Highway 101, Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 26, at about 7:14 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a southbound blue SUV entered the northbound lanes. There, the SUV collided head-on with a semi-truck near the Hartnell Road exit.
Investigators believe that the SUV driver intentionally drove the wrong way.
Authorities identified the SUV driver as 34-year-old Iris Rivas. As per reports, Rivas suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She will also undergo a mental health evaluation.
Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver, identified as a Fresno man, sustained minor injuries.
CHP continues to investigate the accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
