60-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Vehicle in Newark

 
NEWARK, CA (September 22, 2024) – Heriberto Rivera was killed in a bicycle accident in Newark Thursday morning on September 19.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 38000 block of Cherry Street. According to the Newark Police Department, Rivera was riding his bicycle southbound on Cherry Street in the bicycle lane. At the same time, a driver was making a left turn from northbound Cherry Street.
 
While the driver was turning into a driveaway, they struck Rivera with their vehicle.
 
As a result, Rivera suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 60 years old of Tracy.
 
The involved driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
