22-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Juvenile Driver in Acton
ACTON, CA (June 23, 2024) – Hector Aranda was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles in Acton early Friday morning on June 14.
The fatal crash happened around 1:20 a.m. on 14 Freeway, just south of Red Rover Mine Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a tow truck was assisting a disabled Honda Pilot SUV on the right shoulder. The driver of the tow truck and the driver of the Honda were standing outside the Honda when a Nissan Altima struck the rear of the Honda. The impact pushed the Honda into the pedestrians.
Aranda, who was the driver of the Honda, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 22 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old driver of the Altima fled the scene on foot after the crash. He was later apprehended at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital.
No charges have been announced as of Saturday. Further investigation is underway.
