1 Dead in Fiery Big Rig Accident on 5 Freeway in Walnut Grove

 
WALNUT GROVE, CA (January 22, 2025) — A driver died in a fiery semi-truck accident on the 5 Freeway near Twin Cities Road.
 
The Walnut Grove Fire District said the fatal two-vehicle collision happened around 8:31 a.m. Tuesday. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene in South Sacramento County to find a sedan and a big rig engulfed in flames. The driver of the sedan, who remains unidentified, passed away in the crash.
 
Officials did not release the victim’s name.
 
According to an investigation, the Lexus sedan driver veered off the road for an unknown reason and plowed into the rear of a semi-truck parked off to the side.
 
The driver of the big rig was unharmed in the accident despite the trailer catching on fire. As a result of the accident, authorities closed all lanes to investigate until 10:29 a.m.
