1 Dies After Vehicles Hit Man in DUI Crash on 680 Freeway in Concord

CONCORD, CA (July 16, 2024) — A driver hit by multiple cars in a DUI accident on the 680 Freeway near Concord Avenue passed away Sunday.

According to the California Highway Patrol Contra Costa office, the fatal DUI crash happened around 10:55 p.m. For possible DUI reasons, a man driving a black Honda Civic crashed into the right concrete barrier of the southbound freeway. Subsequently, the vehicle stopped, blocking the No. 3 and 4 lanes.

Sometime later, the man exited the Honda before a black Chevrolet Tahoe — occupied by a female driver and a male passenger — struck him. He ended up further south, where an oncoming silver Toyota Corolla — solely occupied by a male driver — struck him. From there, the Corolla crashed into a concrete center divider and overturned.

Shortly after, paramedics arrived and took the Corolla driver to a hospital for major injuries. The Honda driver, who remains unidentified, however, passed away. Authorities believe impairment played a role on his part.

At this time, authorities are investigating this crash further.
