19-Year-Old Passenger Dies in Early Morning Crash on Highway 101 near San Antonio Street
SAN JOSE, CA (September 4, 2024) – Donovan Macedo Gonzalez was killed in a DUI crash in San Jose early Sunday morning on September 1.
The fatal crash happened around 3:31 a.m. on Highway 101 near San Antonio Street, just south of the East Santa Clara Street on-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old San Jose man was driving a Mercedes CLS500 and had passed San Antonio Street when he lost control of the car. He then crashed into the right-hand shoulder of the highway.
Gonzalez was sitting in the left-rear passenger seat and was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the car and suffered major injuries.
First responders pronounced Gonzalez dead at the scene. He was also a 19-year-old San Jose resident, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The driver and a second male passenger, also 19, sustained minor injuries.
Officers arrested the driver for driving under the influence.
Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash, which is under investigation. Authorities asked anyone with further information to contact the CHP San Jose area field office at 408-961-0900.
