Donald Baker Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Lake Don Pedro near Fleming Meadows Boat Ramp
TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA (September 16, 2024) — Donald Baker died after his car crashed into Lake Don Pedro near Fleming Meadows Boat Ramp Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic incident happened when 64-year-old Baker drove his 2015 Kia sedan to Fleming Meadows Boat Ramp. Upon arriving, he reversed his car down the embankment near the waterline. However, his vehicle suddenly accelerated backward into the water.
Baker called 911 and informed dispatch that water was filling up his vehicle. Sometime later, Sonora CHP and Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene using an underwater robot to find the car. However, upon discovering his vehicle, police found Baker dead at the scene.
Authorities did not say if impairment factored into the accident. However, they confirmed that he did not have a boat and was probably at the lake to go fishing.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Donald Baker.
