Off-Duty Deputy Dies after Crash During Early Morning Hours in Torrance

 
TORRANCE, CA (April 15, 2024) – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy Daniel Okamoto was killed in a traffic accident in Torrance early Friday morning on April 12.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:24 a.m. at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Skypark Drive. According to the Torrance Police Department, Okamoto was riding his motorcycle when he got involved in a collision for unknown reasons.
 
The impact caused Okamoto fatal injuries and he died at the scene.
 
Okamoto joined the LA County Sheriff’s Department in 2017 and worked in the South Bay. He served communities in Lomita, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and San Pedro.
 
Okamoto’s survivors include his parents, grandmother and brother.
 
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
