DUI Crash in Corning Kills Two People and Badly Injures Another

 
CORNING, CA (February 25, 2025) – Daniel A. Rodriguez Romero was among two people who died in a DUI crash in Corning early Sunday morning on February 23.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. on 5 Freeway, just north of Liberal Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Romero was driving a 2001 Toyota Avalon when he veered off the roadway. The car then went down an embankment and struck a tree.
 
As a result, Romero suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was 24 years old of Gerber. His 13-year-old male passenger from Corning was also pronounced dead at the scene.
 
A second male passenger, identified as 18-year-old Alexis Aguilar Jacinto of Red Bluff, was transported to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.
 
Investigators said none of the people involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. They also said alcohol apparently played a role in the crash.
 
An investigation is ongoing.
