UPDATE: Christian Vargas Arrested, Two Killed in DUI Accident on Leland Road [Pittsburg, CA]

Police Arrest Christian Vargas for Fatal DUI Accident in Pittsburg

 
PITTSBURG, CA (April 13, 2021) – Two people died in a DUI accident on West Leland Road Monday night, April 12.
 
The accident happened around 6:03 p.m. just east of John Henry Johnson Parkway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Camaro.
 
Both vehicles traveled eastbound on West Leland Road. Police determined the driver of the Camaro was speeding when he collided with the rear of the Corolla. As a result, the Corolla driver lost control and collide with several trees.

The driver of the Corolla suffered major injuries and died prior to being transported to a hospital.

The front passenger suffered major injuries, but is expected to recover.

Seated in the rear seats of the vehicle were four children – a 1, 4, 7, and 10-year-old. As officers arrived, they determined the three younger children ejected from the vehicle.

Paramedics transported all three to area hospitals. However, the 7-year-old child suffered critical injuries and later died.

The Camaro driver, 25-year-old Christian Vargas, displayed signs of impairment. However, Vargas did not suffer any injuries and police placed him under arrest. Officials booked him at the Pittsburg Police Department and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

The two passengers of the Camaro, one being the 10-year-old, suffered serious injuries and also transported to hospitals.
