Chase McCutcheon, Jason Phillips Die in DUI, High-Speed Crash on Copper Avenue near Willow Avenue
FRESNO, CA (March 20, 2024) — Chase McCutcheon and Jason Phillips died in a DUI high-speed accident on Copper Avenue near Willow Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Monday. For DUI-related reasons, a driver of a westbound Tesla Model 3 was traveling at a high speed. Subsequently, he lost control and struck a guardrail and a street sign at a turn on the road. From there, the Tesla overturned and ejected two males from the vehcile.
Minutes later, emergency personnel arrived and found two injured victims: 24-year-old Jason Phillips and 32-year-old Chase McCutcheon. Both men died in the crash. A third passenger, described as a 37-year-old Fresno man sitting in the backseat with a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics took him to Community Regional Medical Center.
