39-Year-Old Homeless Man Dies after Struck Vehicle in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (June 18, 2024) – Benjamen Golonsky was struck and killed by a vehicle in Long Beach late Friday evening on June 14.
The fatal crash happened around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Carson Street and Gundry Avenue, a couple blocks east of Orange Avenue. According to the Long Beach Police Department, a vehicle was traveling east on Carson Street when it struck Golonsky who was crossing Carson outside of a crosswalk.
The impact caused Golonsky fatal injuries and he died at the scene. He was 39 years old and was homeless, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
Police said neither speed, distracted driving nor impairment were believed to be factors in the crash.
