Barry McClain Killed in Head-On Accident on Highway 160 [Hood, CA]

Head-On Crash in Hood Kills 70-Year-Old Courtland Man

 
HOOD, CA (July 4, 2023) – Barry Andrew McClain died in a head-on accident in Hood Friday evening on June 30.
 
The fatal accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 160, roughly a mile south of Hood Franklin Road. According to the CHP, McClain drove off the road while trying to avoid a head-on crash.
 
McClain died at the scene. He was a 70-year-old Courtland resident, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
 
The other driver is suspected to have been driving under the influence.
 
McClain served as chairman of the board of directors for the Courtland Fire Protection District, which serves about 2,500 people across a 33-square-mile region of southern Sacramento County, according to the district’s website.
 
McClain was re-elected to the position in November 2020.
 
An investigation into this crash is underway.
