Barbara Taylor Killed in DUI Crash on Euclid Avenue [Upland, CA]

DUI Crash in Upland Leaves Grandmother Dead and Her Granddaughter in Critical Condition

 
UPLAND, CA (October 3, 2024) – Barbara Taylor was killed in a DUI crash in Upland Wednesday afternoon on October 2.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m. at Euclid Avenue and 15th Street. According to the Upland Police Department, Taylor was driving with her adult granddaughter who was sitting in the passenger seat. As they approached the stop sign at the intersection, they drove forward when it appeared safe.
 
However, a speeding driver crashed into them before they could reach the other side.
 
A witness stepped out of his car to try and help the victims but the severe impact jammed their car doors.
 
Responding emergency crews extricated the victims using a hydraulic rescue tool. After extrication, they rushed both patients to a trauma center, where the grandmother succumbed to her injuries.
 
Taylor was an 83-year-old Rancho Cucamonga resident. Her granddaughter remained in critical condition.

The speeding driver, 25-year-old Jose Ramirez, sustained minoir injuries along with a passenger in his car. Police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities also discovered Ramirez was previously arrested for driving under the influence in July 2024 by Ontario Police. They booked him at the West Valley Detention Center for murder and DUI.

An investigation into this crash is underway.
