Alvaro Patino Unharmed, Teen Killed in Fiery Semi-Truck, Stolen Vehicle Crash on 710 Freeway near Anaheim Street
LONG BEACH, CA (May 15, 2024) — Alvaro Patino escaped injury following a fiery big rig accident involving a stolen car on the 710 Freeway near Anaheim Street.
According to the Long Beach Police, the fatal accident happened after 10:00 p.m. Monday. Officers tried pursuing a stolen 2020 Kia near Jaymills Avenue. Subsequently, a Long Beach Police Department helicopter joined in, tracking the vehicle’s location.
Minutes later, the stolen Kia crashed into a 2024 Freightliner as the Kia tried to cut in front of the Freightliner, possibly attempting to exit the 710 Freeway at the Anaheim Street off-ramp. Immediately, Long Beach Fire Department personnel began pulling four occupants from the burning car: the 15-year-old driver, two 13-year-old girls and a 14-year-old.
Paramedics ushered all four to a nearby hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. However, the 15-year-old Long Beach driver passed away from his injuries.
Fortunately, 22-year-old Alvaro Patino, of Paramount, dodged injury. Due to the accident, officers closed all northbound lanes for several hours to investigate the crash. If anyone has additional insight into this accident, please call Long Beach Police.
