Alfredo Verganza-Lucas Dies in DUI Multi-Car Pileup on 91 Freeway near Adams Street
RIVERSIDE, CA (October 16, 2024) — Alfredo Verganza-Lucas died in a DUI multi-car accident on the 91 Freeway near Adams Street.
The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of an accident around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Upon responding, officials learned that a Jeep Patriot and Kia Sportage driver collided, resulting in minor injuries.
Subsequently, the Jeep occupants exited the vehicle and became pedestrians on the road. However, a commercial tractor-trailer heading eastbound tried to avoid hitting the Jeep but lost control. The truck overturned. From there, a Toyota Camry driver, traveling behind the tractor-trailer, also took evasive action but struck the Jeep, anyhow, and a male pedestrian — a Jeep occupant.
The victim passed away in the accident. Authorities identified him as 21-year-old Alfredo Verganza-Lucas.
Following the incident, police arrested the Kia and Jeep drivers for DUI. The Toyota driver evaded harm, and the tractor-trailer driver reported minor injuries.
