36-Year-Old Man Dies after Crashing into Big Rig and Sedan in Riverside

 
RIVERSIDE, CA (July 17, 2024)Alex Rey was killed in a pileup crash in Riverside early Tuesday morning on July 16.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 2:00 a.m. on northbound 215 Freeway, less than a half-mile north of the 60 Freeway and 91 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer and a 2023 Nissan sedan were stopped in traffic. At the same time, Rey was driving a 2009 Mercury SUV northbound on the freeway.
 
For unknown reasons, Rey failed to see the stopped vehicles ahead of him, and rear-ended both the semi and the Nissan.
 
Rey suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Riverside Fire Department paramedics. He was 36 years old.
 
The trucker and the Nissan driver both sustained minor injuries.
 
It was unclear if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Further investigation is underway.
