Rollover Crash in Griffith Park Kills One Woman and Seriously Injures Three Men
GRIFFITH PARK, CA (September 30, 2024) – Aileen Ruiz was killed in a rollover accident in Griffith Park early Sunday morning on September 29.
The fatal accident happened around 12:50 a.m. on 134 Freeway at the 5 Freeway connector. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old man was driving a white 2001 Honda sedan southbound on 5 Freeway, just south of the 134 Freeway overpass when he lost control and began to veer right.
The Honda then crashed into a metal guardrail and overturned on its roof on the connector.
Ruiz was one of the passengers in the car. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was 19 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Paramedics rushed three men, including the driver, to a hospital with major injuries. One of them is in grave condition and two in critical condition.
One of the men riding as a passenger was not wearing a seat belt. It was unclear whether he was the person ejected.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free the two trapped men.
There were no arrests at this time. Authorities said drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash, which is under investigation.
We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones and friends of Aileen Ruiz.
