Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez Killed in Car Crash with Semi-Truck near Betteravia Road

 
SANTA MARIA, CA (May 11, 2022) — One person died in a car accident with a semi-truck on East Betteravia Road and Philbric Road at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2.
 
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Alberto Gonzalez-Lopez of Santa Maria, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
 
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, 32-year-old Domingo Perez Lopez of Santa Maria drove a Honda Civic south on Philbric Road and stopped the car at a stop sign. He started to make a left turn onto eastbound Betteravia Road, directly in front of the tractor-trailer rig driven by 64-year-old Fidel Gomes Reyes of Santa Maria.
 
After that, the Civic continued southwest and stopped south of Betteravia Road. The semi-truck drove off the roadway and into a power pole and fence. As a result, the trailer overturned.
 
Gonzalez-Lopez was sitting in the left rear passenger seat of the sedan, the CHP said. Gonzalez-Lopez died at the scene.
 
Both Lopez and Reyes were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center and treated for major and moderate injuries, respectively. In addition, so was a second passenger in the sedan, Servillano Perez Lopez of Santa Maria.
 
At this time, police are investigating the accident.
