Transient Dies after Struck by Van on Highway 36 in Red Bluff
RED BLUFF, CA (December 5, 2023) – A 61-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 36 in Red Bluff Sunday evening on December 3.
The fatal accident happened around 8:37 p.m. just of the 5 Freeway near the Slough Bridge. According to the Red Bluff Police Department, a 56-year-old Red Bluff man was driving a 1988 Chevrolet van eastbound on Highway 36, also known as Antelope Boulevard at approximately 35 mph. He noticed the pedestrian crossing in front of his vehicle and was unable to avoid colliding with her.
Police said the woman was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk.
First responders found the woman lying in the eastbound lane of the highway. They attempted saving her, but she died at the scene. The victim was reportedly transient.
Police said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. But they determined that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended or revoked license at the time of the crash.
The investigation will be sent to the Tehama County District Attorney for review, police said.
