Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Suspect after Deadly Crash on Main Street at Colden Avenue
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (June 26, 2023) – A 5-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles Tuesday evening on June 20.
The fatal crash happened around 7:45 p.m. at Main Street and Colden Avenue. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed. It then ran a red light at the intersection and collided into another vehicle carrying four people
After the crash, the driver of the speeding vehicle fled the scene.
A 17-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl in the second vehilce suffered critical injuries. The other two occupants were the toddler’s 32-year-old mother and her 14-year-old sibling.
First responders rushed the 5-year-old girl to a pediatric intensive care unit, where the child succumbed to her injuries Thursday.
Detectives identified the hit-and-run suspect as 26-year-old Pedro Murillo. They arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Investigators have requested that murder charges be filed against Murillo. They sought potential witnesses with detailed information about the whereabouts or the activities of the suspect prior to the fatal crash.
