Child Riding on ATV Dies after Colliding with SUV on Road 140 in Tulare County
TULARE COUNTY, CA (June 3, 2024) – A 12-year-old boy died in an ATV accident on Road 140 in Tulare County Friday evening on May 31.
The fatal accident happened just before 7:00 p.m. at Avenue 432 near Orosi. According to the California Highway Patrol, the boy was riding the ATV when he failed to stop at the Road 140 stop sign. He then struck the front of a GMC SUV that was traveling east on Avenue 432.
Responding emergency crews provided medical aid to the boy, but he died at the scene. Officers said the unidentified victim was wearing a helmet.
Meanwhile, the woman was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. She stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
The CHP said Avenue 432 does not have a stop sign, giving the 61-year-old woman driving the SUV the right of way.
The child was a 6th grader at El Monte Middle School.
This fatality is still under investigation.
